Ohana Magazine – The race for Android performance has produced an unexpected champion. AnTuTu’s September 2026 flagship ranking places the Xiaomi 18 Fold at the top with an average score of 4,620,886 points. The result stands out because a foldable phone managed to outperform several conventional flagships built primarily around raw performance. AnTuTu calculated the ranking from tests conducted with AnTuTu V12 between September 1 and September 30, 2026. The tested Xiaomi 18 Fold featured 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. More importantly, it runs on Xiaomi’s own Xring O3 chipset. That combination pushed the foldable ahead of powerful competitors using Qualcomm and MediaTek silicon. Therefore, the result represents more than another benchmark victory. It also suggests that foldable devices are moving beyond design-focused products and becoming serious contenders in the premium performance race.

Xring O3 Makes an Impressive Flagship Debut

Behind the Xiaomi 18 Fold’s remarkable result sits the Xring O3, a chipset developed by Xiaomi itself. The foldable became the first smartphone to use the processor when it debuted in China in early September 2026. Xiaomi previously claimed that Xring O3 could reach approximately 5.22 million points on AnTuTu. However, the Xiaomi 18 Fold recorded a lower average of 4.62 million during September testing. That difference is worth noting because controlled performance claims do not always represent broader benchmark averages. Temperature, software configuration, memory behavior, and sustained workloads can all affect the final result. Even so, Xring O3 delivered enough power to defeat some of the strongest chips from established rivals. For Xiaomi, that achievement carries strategic importance. Developing competitive silicon could eventually give the company greater control over performance, power efficiency, software optimization, and the overall experience offered by future flagship smartphones.

iQoo and Honor Keep the Competition Extremely Close

Xiaomi may have taken first place, but its rivals remain surprisingly close. The iQoo 16 secured second position with 4,449,925 points. It combines the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Its score trails the Xiaomi 18 Fold by 170,961 points, or roughly 3.7 percent. Meanwhile, the Honor Magic9 Pro Max reached third place with 4,435,489 points. It also uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, paired with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Xiaomi appears again in fourth place through the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, which scored 4,395,919 points with similar memory specifications. These relatively narrow gaps illustrate how competitive the premium Android market has become. Consequently, chipset specifications alone no longer determine the winner. Cooling systems, memory performance, software tuning, and power management can significantly influence how effectively a smartphone converts powerful hardware into sustained performance.

MediaTek Breaks Into the Top Five With Oppo

Qualcomm has a strong presence near the top of the ranking, yet MediaTek still secures an important position. The Oppo Find X10 Pro Max ranks fifth with an average AnTuTu score of 4,385,161 points. It uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro alongside 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. As a result, Oppo becomes the only MediaTek-powered device inside September’s top five. Further down the ranking, the RedMagic 11S Pro+ scores 4,344,022 points and takes sixth place. The change is particularly notable because RedMagic previously led the flagship performance ranking for August 2026. Its fall to sixth place within a month highlights the relentless pace of Android hardware development. A flagship that dominates one ranking can quickly face faster challengers. Moreover, benchmark performance increasingly depends on more than peak processor speed. Manufacturers must balance thermal control, sustained power, memory bandwidth, battery efficiency, and software optimization to remain competitive.

The 10 Fastest Android Flagships in September 2026

The full ranking reveals how closely several premium Android phones compete. Xiaomi 18 Fold leads with 4,620,886 points, followed by iQoo 16 at 4,449,925 and Honor Magic9 Pro Max at 4,435,489. Xiaomi 18 Pro Max ranks fourth with 4,395,919, while Oppo Find X10 Pro Max follows with 4,385,161. RedMagic 11S Pro+ takes sixth place at 4,344,022. Next, iQoo 15 Ultra records 4,324,672 points, while Honor WIN reaches 4,099,965. Xiaomi 18 Pro occupies ninth place with 4,095,618, followed closely by Realme GT8 Pro with 4,089,081 points. Interestingly, the list features multiple generations of Snapdragon hardware alongside MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro and Xiaomi’s Xring O3. Therefore, September’s results highlight a broader shift in the flagship market. Competition is no longer centered on a single chipmaker, giving manufacturers more ways to pursue top-tier Android performance.

Foldable Phones Are Moving Beyond Design and Multitasking

The Xiaomi 18 Fold’s victory carries extra significance because foldable phones have traditionally competed on design, display flexibility, and multitasking rather than benchmark dominance. Engineering a powerful foldable is difficult because manufacturers must fit batteries, cooling hardware, cameras, and an elaborate hinge mechanism into limited internal space. Nevertheless, Xiaomi appears determined to challenge those limitations. The Xiaomi 18 Fold features a 5.38-inch outer display and a larger 7.58-inch internal screen. It also carries three rear cameras developed in collaboration with Leica. Therefore, the device attempts to combine photography, portability, flexible-screen functionality, and flagship performance in one package. Its AnTuTu result suggests that buyers may no longer need to automatically accept weaker performance when choosing a foldable. However, benchmark numbers tell only part of the story. Battery endurance, heat management, hinge durability, camera quality, and long-term software support remain equally important when evaluating an expensive foldable smartphone.

Benchmark Scores Tell Only Part of the Smartphone Story

A score of 4.62 million gives the Xiaomi 18 Fold a compelling headline, yet consumers should interpret benchmark rankings carefully. AnTuTu measures specific aspects of processor, graphics, memory, and system performance under defined testing conditions. Everyday smartphone use can produce a different experience. Games may stress cooling systems for extended periods, while camera processing and multitasking place different demands on the hardware. Battery management can also limit performance when temperatures rise. The gap between Xiaomi’s claimed 5.22 million points for Xring O3 and the Xiaomi 18 Fold’s 4.62 million average reinforces that distinction. Still, topping the September ranking remains an important achievement. Xiaomi has demonstrated that its own processor can compete against established flagship platforms while powering a sophisticated foldable device. More importantly, stronger competition among chipmakers could encourage faster innovation, giving Android users more choices in performance, efficiency, form factor, and premium features.
