Ohana Magazine – The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, recently sparked excitement by revealing that a fourth season could happen. While Season 3 is expected to wrap up Seong Gi-hun’s story, Hwang isn’t ruling out future expansions. Fans now wonder if the survival drama has more deadly games in store.

Season 3 Aims to Conclude, But the Universe May Expand

Hwang confirmed that Season 3 would likely close Gi-hun’s arc. However, he also said, “never say never” when asked about continuing the franchise. This leaves the door open for future storylines, possibly focusing on new characters or untold elements of the game.

Rich Narrative Opportunities Await

The Squid Game world goes beyond its violent contests. Hwang has shown interest in exploring other perspectives. For example, he mentioned the masked guards, the recruitment process, and even international branches of the game as potential topics. These ideas could form the foundation of future episodes or spin-offs.

U.S. Setting Sparks Spin-Off Rumors

Season 3 includes scenes set in Los Angeles. Cate Blanchett appears in a cameo as a recruiter, a detail that caught fans’ attention. Rumors now suggest Netflix may create a U.S.-based version. Reports even hint at David Fincher joining the project, although Netflix has yet to confirm anything.

Hwang’s Next Steps

After years of working on Squid Game, Hwang plans to take a break. He wants to focus on film projects and recharge creatively. Still, he remains open to returning if a fresh idea arises. “If the story feels right, I’ll be back,” he noted in a recent interview.

What Comes Next?

Though Season 4 is not official, the signs are promising. Netflix continues to support the franchise. Global interest remains strong. Whether through a new season, a prequel, or an international spin-off, the Squid Game universe seems far from finished.
